Bihar Floor Test Updates: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government won the floor test in Bihar Assembly on Monday (January 12). RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary was removed as Bihar assembly speaker. A no-confidence motion moved by the ruling NDA against the Speaker received the support of 125 MLAs, while 112 members voted against it in the 243-strong assembly. RJD received a jolt inside the assembly ahead of voting on a no-confidence motion against Chaudhary, where at least three of its members sat on the ruling party benches. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav raised a point of order, taking objection to party MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi and Prahlad Yadav sitting among members of the ruling NDA.
In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, NDA has 128 MLAs– including 78 from the BJP, 45 from Janata Dal-United (JD-U), four from the HAM-S and an Independent. Meanwhile, the Opposition’s grand alliance has 114 MLAs– including 79 from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), 19 from the Congress, and 16 from the Left parties. There is also one AIMIM MLA. To achieve the majority mark, the Nitish government needs 122 MLAs.

Bihar: JDU Exudes Confidence in Winning Trust Vote Ahead of Floor Test Today
Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United (JDU) exuded confidence that the party’s president will win the trust vote during the crucial floor test scheduled on Monday, two weeks after he ditched its alliance with the RJD and formed a government with the BJP.
The trust vote will follow after Nitish took the oath as the chief minister of Bihar for the record ninth time.
JD(U) national secretary Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said, “Under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, we will get the majority and the government will complete its tenure.”

“The people of Bihar are embarrassed over the state of affairs. They are very saddened by the way Nitish Kumar made fun of them and their mandate. The pressure on his MLAs is clearly visible. It wouldn’t surprise me if Nitish Kumar makes another of his political switchovers in the foreseeable future and return to the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance),” the BSP MP told ANI on Sunday.

Ahead of the floor test in Bihar Assembly on Monday, the Janata Dal(U) alleged that the opposition had tried to “buy” its legislators, but failed. Jha said this as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with his other MLAs reached the Assembly for the floor test.
Kumar was accompanied by Sanjay Jha, former water resource development minister, and Vijay Chaudhary along with other MLAs. Jha claimed that the opposition party leaders tried to buy the legislators of JD(U). “We have 128 MLAs who are supporting the Nitish Kumar government. The opposition leaders tried to buy the JD(U) MLAs but failed in their games. We have the complete majority in the Bihar Assembly and the number may go beyond 128 in favour of NDA,” Jha said.
“All 45 MLAs of JD(U) are in contact with us. Majority of them reached Patna and some of them are on the way,” Jha said.

Bihar Floor Test: Two JD(U) MLAs Traced, To Take Part in Trust Vote
Of the four missing JD(U) MLAs, who did not attend the JD(U) meetings ahead of the floor test on Monday, two have been traced and have said that they will be taking part in the floor test.
Sudarshan Kumar, the MLA from Barbigha, and Dr Sanjiv Kumar, MLA from Parbatta, were traced by JD(U) and both were on their way to Patna. Two other MLAs — Bima Bharti and Dilip Rai — continued to be missing.
“I am not angry with anyone. I will participate in the floor test and will vote in the favour of Nitish Kumar,” Sudarshan Kumar said after reaching Patna.
